What is WordPress User Roles?
WordPress provide user roles management system to website owner for other member to give specific user roles for specific permissions within the site.By learning user roles and permissions in WordPress will help to manage your website user position.There are five major user roles in WordPress and they are
Administrator role have power to access all features in WordPress website like website owner
By default when WordPress is installed the website owner is the administrator. administrators have all power within the website,the administrator can perform task such as edit or publish post ,manage theme ,manage plugin ,mange comments ,create or manage page ,manage users and administrator also have power over other user post
While giving Administrator role to others is very risky because this role have power to kick site owner or control of the WordPress website will be changed and think twice before giving administrator role
Editor can manage and publish post including post of other users
Editor have permission to add, edit, delete and publish any content of the WordPress website including other user’s contents and Editor also have permission to edit,delete and approve comment but editor have no permission in appearance ,plugins ,user and setting section
Mostly this role are given to worker or known people but disadvantage of this role is ,if the user are ready left from a wordpress website ,there will be possible to delete the content
Author can edit ,publish or delete their own post but they can’t delete other user post.while author publishing new post,author cannot create new categories so they author must use existing categories
Author user role have no access or power in appearance ,plugins ,settings and comment section.Author can see comments but they cannot moderate or delete or approve comments.
Author user role is risky because this role have power to delete their own post so this will cause broken link in a WordPress website
Contributor can write and edit their post but they cannot publish their post .
Contributor cannot create new categories so contributor must utilize with existing categories and also contributor cannot upload any media file.Contributor don’t have access or power on appearance ,plugin ,setting and comment section but they can see comment but they cannot modify or delete or approve the comment.
This is the common user role given for registered member for guest blog and this role provide high advantage to website owner
Subscriber user role can only for comment in post and manage their profile
Subscriber have no access or power admin area .Subscriber can change their profile ,password and comment on the article.
Subscriber have no power to write,edit or publish article and they cannot see comment section in their panel.
Super admin user role for multiple WordPress website in WordPress multisite network.user with this role who administrator on the multiple WordPress website.
so super admin user have access or power in all section such as appearance , plugin ,setting and comment in admin panel in multiple WordPress website.
